Residence Permit Accommodation Checklist

Monday, 15 June, 2026

Found a place you'd like to rent? Before signing a rental agreement, make sure you understand the accommodation documents required for your residence permit application, as incomplete or incorrect paperwork may affect the process.

Accommodation Documents Required for Residence Permit Applications

International students applying for a residence permit in Hungary must provide proof of accommodation. The most important document is a valid rental contract signed by the accommodation provider.

The rental contract should clearly state:

  • The address of the property
  • Monthly rental and associated expenses
  • Terms and conditions of the tenancy
  • Duration of the rental period

Please note that all registered owners of the property must sign the rental contract. Therefore, students are strongly advised to verify the ownership details listed on the property deed before signing any agreement.

Language Requirements

As Hungarian is the official language of public administration, rental contracts do not need to be submitted in English. However, for your own protection and understanding, it is highly recommended to obtain an English translation of the contract.

It is also essential that the contract complies with the requirements of the Hungarian immigration authority. Contracts that do not meet these requirements may not be accepted during the residence permit application process.

Additional Documents Required

Students may also be required to submit the following documents:

  • Official copy of the property deed (földtulajdoni lap) issued by the Hungarian Land Administration Office (Földhivatal)
  • Proof of payment of utility fees (electricity, gas, water)
  • Residential address registration form (szállásbejelentő lap)
  • Personal documents, including passport, Letter of Award, and Decision of Admission
  • Proof of valid health insurance

Please note that administrative fees may apply during the residence permit and accommodation registration procedures.

Need Help?
